Newark Project
Project Details
These clients were looking to improve the aesthetics of their retention pond and improve the health of the ecosystem. We were hired to do just that! We started by removing overgrown plants, excavating excess debris and establishing the spring entrance.
The next order of business was controlling the leaf debris that lands in the pond every fall. We build an intake bay to skim leaves off the surface and collect them all in one area for easier removal. We added an aquascape stacked slate wall fountain scape for added oxygen as well as push surface debris from the center of the pond.
After that we reconstructed their failing dam. The goal was to raise the water level a minimum of 6inches in the pond which we achieved. Now the pond stays at a consistent water level and can hold more aquatic life.
Finally we stocked this pond. Starting with native fathead minnows and juvenile blue gill to build a base population of bait fish. Next we added some adult blue gill, a channel catfish, and black crappie as predators. Completing the ultimate native fishing hole for all the neighborhood kids!
